“We got to talk”, I said to Ross. I could feel the bad energy from the run down marina where we were staying and our problems with the motor were getting to me. I am not a passionate sailor like Ross, I just like to hang out around water. I come from a water country where the next body of water is always close. Sleeping on the water enhances my dreams. I love water energy. But I do not get a kick out of swing keels versus fixed keels, winches, cleats, knots, motor size or water pumps – especially not a broken water pump. Also, I am not a person that deals easily with practical problems or issues. In fact, Ross and I have a lot of laughs because of my ‘bad mechanics’. It is part of my dance with life to read, write and play music every day. It is my way of maintaining my inner point of balance. When I am in a situation or energy where I can’t do that it does affect my balance in a negative way. To this you can add fighting the bugs – mosquitoes in the evening and night, ants getting into out food around the clock! So….I felt it was time to share some of this with Ross and figure out what to do. We were just next to our marina full of boats going back to sea. “Pull in here so we can talk”, I said. We sat there in the jeep and talked for a while. Ross certainly didn’t like the marina dump more than I did. He loves boats so much and seeing so many of them in a bad shape just breaks his heart. Also he could not get his painting going there. We had been looking around for a different situation but not found anything corresponding our needs. As we talked, I noticed Ross started looking around. “Hey,” he said, “we haven’t even checked out this marina just next door!” He was absolutely right. And guess what – in this serendipitous way we found the nicest marina ever. Here we are, with a nice slip, space, palm trees, clean bathrooms and a huge former restaurant kitchen at our disposal so we don’t have to eat out all the time even though we do love DJ’s Diner and Mrs. Mac’s. The Milemarker 112 Marina was even so close that Ross could easily motor Paradox over with the electric motor we brought for the dinghy – very convenient since the Mercury motor is still in repair. We will get it back in a couple of days.

Such Challenges… I have to say that I am more like you when it comes to the bugs, challenges, heat, etc. I love the water too but not so much the work of a sailboat. It is nice though to know that you and Ross can talk it out, communicate and come to a new resolution. Now, that is inspiring! Love it that you also have a nicer marina to stay in and a kitchen to cook in and enjoy. I love you both and I am sending you really good positive energy. Know that you are in my thoughts!

Thanks for your love and positive energies Debby, I can feel them! Yes, the mosquitoes go for me and not Ross, no matter whether I try natural oils or chemicals to keep them away. And the ants are what we in Denmark call “tissemyrer”, pissing ants, with a substance that stings you. There is always a bug in paradise! But I do enjoy the warm weather, the closeness to water and our new marina. Today I even got online here which makes it so much easier to do our blog. Much love and tropical winds back to you, Hanne

Things are not looking and feeling so good and then they are going good. Such is the contrast of life and having adventures! Good for you guys for living fully! You both look good. Hey Ross, I finally found a kick-up rudder for my Cat22, and only 12 miles from me and for only $200. And it’s just like new too! I still have alot of work to do but I feel a lot better now that is taken care of. I would like to see you guys some time as long as you are still in Florida. Any ideas to help me that would be appreciated.

Mark, when we get down in Big Pine Key we can hook up by phone. Save up some questions and I’ll try to answer them for you. We are still in Key Largo and will head down to BPK Feb 1st. Hanne’s cell is 505-603-8363 ….. Ya going good then not so good … However in this great weather…74-78 every day … Love it … I started my first painting today with an outdoor studio under some palm tree in the breeze.
Thanks for keeping up with us … Ross

Happy to hear you have found a better space – in more ways than one !! Great photos – what a beautiful heron, that photo made me smile right away . Mmmmm that Ross sure can cook, it looks delicious! Hopefully the mosquito problem can be solved. They like Rob more than me as well. Yes, always a bug in paradise – I agree! Lots of love and blessings to you both, hope the rest of the week continues to be a good one.

Hej Alison, thanks for your comments. They called that bird a kind of kingfisher here, I don’t think it was a heron, but not sure. Anyway it settled down on Paradox for a while – until a cat came to chase the bird that was chasing a fish! Much love to you and Rob, Hanne

Cool – our kingfishers up here are quite different. Yours looks a bit like our little green herons, They are pretty shy, I can never get very close, but here is a link to a shot. http://www.flickr.com/photos/whencrowlaughed/3713214672/in/photostream/
We visited a wildlife refuge when we were in Florida, and saw so many birds I’ve never seen before, it was amazing ! Oh dear, hope the bird escaped from the cat – sounds like that nursery rhyme – the old lady who swallowed a fly ….

Alison, you are absolutely right about the bird. It is in the heron family. I just talked to some people here who confirmed that and showed me a picture. These herons are rarely seen. So it was quite amazing that it sat on our boat for a long time. I even talked to it because I like to talk with the birds and it seemed comfortable with the sound. And yes, it did escape from the cat 🙂
